Kogi: Gov Bello sacks accountant general, perm secs,

All the permanent secretaries and heads of parastatals in Kogi state have been directed to go on compulsory retirement leave – Governor Bello relieved state’s the accountant general of his duties – This comes few days after the newly inaugurated governor dissolved boards of parastatals in the state Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has sacked the accountant general of the state, Ibrahim Idakwo while his assistant is to immediately proceed on 30 days compulsory leave. All permanent secretaries in the state with exception of the permanent secretary in charge of Government House have been ordered to proceed on a 30-day retirement leave with effect from Tuesday, February 16. Also sacked were the directors of local government, treasurers of local governments, education secretaries, among others, Premium Times reports. This was contained in a statement issued on Monday, February 15, in Lokoja by the governor’s chief press secretary, Kingsley Fanwo. Yahaya Bello has directed that all Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Administration are to go on compulsory leave with immediate effect. “In the same vein, all Directors of Local Governments (DLG), all Treasurers of Local Governments, all Education Secretaries, all Cashiers to Local Governments in the state are to proceed on 30-days compulsory leave effective from tomorrow, February 16, 2016,” the statement read. Those affected have been asked to handover to the staff next to them. According to Fanwo, the decision was to ensure a more efficient and productive civil service. Governor Bello was sworn in on Wednesday, January 27. While delivering his inauguration speech at the confluence stadium, Lokoja, he promised to pay the state civil servants their salaries soon. A few days after his inauguration, Bello had dissolved the boards of the state’s parastatals and agencies. He directed the chairmen and directors-general of the affected agencies to hand over government’s property in their possession to the most senior officers. On November 24, the former governor removed 15 local government chairmen in the state for defecting to All Progressives Congress (APC) but the governor, after his swearing in, ordered the immediate reinstatement of all local government chairmen sacked
