The rumoured death of the Minister
of Labour and Employment, Dr, Chris Ngige which was reported by an online
medium, not HOMELAND NEWS, has turned out to be what it is, a mere rumour.
On Thursday afternoon, the National
Assembly was thrown to a panic mode with the report that the minister fainted
and became lifeless while defending the 2016 budget before the House of
Representatives' committee.
It has been confirmed that there was
an incident at the House of Representatives where a visitor, who is said to be
from Auchi, Edo state, slumped on the corridor of level 111 of the new wing,
before being taken away to the National Hospital.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ngige has debunked
the rumour on his facebook wall where he wrote:
“Dear friends , please disregard the
wicked tissue of lies, contained in an online publication about an unfortunate
incident said to have taken place today (Thursday) at the National Assembly and
in which I was said to have been involved.
“I am currently not in the country
let alone being at the National Assembly. I have since Monday, February 15,
2016 been attending the 42nd Ordinary Session of the African Regional Labour
Advisory Council, taking place in Zambia.
“The meeting ends tomorrow (today).
Indeed, as the Vice-Chairman of today’s session, I had the privilege of
moderating as well as giving the vote of thanks on behalf of other African
countries.
“I thereafter presented a gift also
on their behalf to the Vice-President of Zambia, Mrs. Inonge Wina.”
But how and why a visitor who
slumped in front of the office of the Chairman House Committee on Police
Affairs could be termed to have fainted while defending the budget, and why no
other person could be linked to the incident but the Honourable Minister, Chris
Ngige is still a knot to untie.
